Days 1 to 2 -
UK - Johannesburg Airport - Pretoria
|
Overnight flight from London to Johannesburg International Airport where you are personally met by a representative from our partner company, who will assist you with collecting your rental vehicle and guide you to your guesthouse in Pretoria. Here you will receive the latest road map with detailed route descriptions, discuss possible excursions along the way, as well as other information pertaining to your journey. The rest of the day is free to rest from your flight. Overnight at a guesthouse in Pretoria.

Day 3 -
Pretoria
|
Optional: after breakfast we offer you a slide presentation on intercultural communication and the relationship between blacks and whites in South Africa - a country with many different cultures and 11 official languages! This is invaluable background before starting your journey. The rest of the day may be spent exploring our capital city Pretoria: the Voortrekker Monument and museum, the impressive Union Buildings, the home of former President Paul Kruger, Church Square and others. More options: a guided tour of Soweto, the biggest black township in South Africa, and a visit to the Apartheids museum. Overnight guesthouse in Pretoria.

Day 4 -
Pretoria - Mpumalanga - Sabie
|
Travel along the N4 via Witbank and Middelburg to the scenic Lowveld of Mpumalanga. Visit the quaint village of Dullstroom; take the Long Tom pass to Sabie, the centre of the Forestry Industry. After a visit to some of the magnificent waterfalls in the area, you travel to Pilgrim's Rest, a small town that gained fame during the Gold Rush in the 1800's. The whole town is a living museum. Overnight at guesthouse in Sabie.

Day 5 -
Mpumalanga - Kruger National Park
|
Today we follow the Panorama-route to the Blyde River Canyon, God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels. Late afternoon we enter the famous Kruger National Park. Game viewing on your way to camp. Overnight in one of the northern rest camps in the park.

Days 6 to 7 -
Kruger National Park
|
Two full days game viewing from north to south, with different options: a night drive in an open 4x4 vehicle, or an early morning walk, accompanied by an armed ranger. Overnight in one of the southern rest camps in the park.

Day 8 -
Kruger Park - Swaziland
|
A last game drive, then we leave the Kruger Park and travel further south to the Kingdom of the Swazi's - Swaziland. Here you will meet the friendly and colourful Swazi people on a visit to the Ngwenya Glass Factory, a candle making factory, and a typical Swazi market. Overnight in a small country hotel.

Days 9 to 10 -
Swaziland - St Lucia Wetlands
|
Your journey continues to the St Lucia Wetlands - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a boat trip on Lake St Lucia and be on the lookout for crocodiles and hippos, as well as many different bird species. You may also visit Dumazulu, a traditional Zulu village for a cultural experience, or go on a game drive in the nearby Hluhluwe Game reserve, home to the black and white rhino. Overnight in a guesthouse in St Lucia.

Days 11 to 12 -
St Lucia - Umhlanga Rocks
|
Travel along the north coast of Kwazulu-Natal to the coastal village of Umhlanga Rocks, for two glorious days on the beach of the warm Indian Ocean. Your comfortable family hotel is situated directly on the beach. Overnight in hotel on the beach.

Days 13 to 14 -
Umhlanga Rocks - uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park
|
Continue along the "Golden Mile" at the Durban beachfront and further to the Drakensberg Mountains - another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Two days for mountain walks, bird watching and lazing in the sun. Your rest camp is also home to the San (bushmen) interpretation centre and there are a number of walks to the San rock art in the mountains. Overnight in Didima rest camp.

Days 15 to 16 -
Drakensberg - Bloemfontein - Graaff-Reinet
|
|
Today you travel across the dry plains of the Groot Karoo to Graaff-Reinet, known as the Jewel of the Karoo. Due to the many historical buildings and museums, this one of the most interesting towns in the country. Overnight in a country hotel in town.

Days 17 to 18 -
Graaff - Reinet - Knysna
|
Further through the Little Karoo, and then you start exploring the famous Garden Route - "nature's garden". Visit the Tsitsikamma National Park, and the Stormsriver, and travel along the Lake District to the popular seaside town of Knysna, with its lagoon and Heads, protecting the entrance to the sea. The following days you may visit Plettenberg Bay, see the old yellowwood tree, the "Big Tree", go for a trip on the Choo-Tjoe steam train or take the John Benn Ferry to the Heads and the Featherbed Nature reserve. Don't forget to try the famous Knysna oysters! Your guesthouse has a spectacular setting - from here an unrivalled view across the lagoon towards the ocean. Overnight in guesthouse in Knysna.

Days 19 to 20 -
Knysna - Oudtshoorn
|
You leave the Garden Route behind and travel via the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn where you visit the Cango Caves. Oudtshoorn is well known for the Ostrich Boom in the 1800's, and many of the houses or Ostrich Palaces can still be seen. On the second day you simply must take the spectacular circular drive from Oudtshoorn, through the Meiringspoort mountain pass to the small town of Prince Albert. Back to Oudtshoorn via the breathtaking Swartberg mountain pass. Your accommodation is on a working ostrich farm, and the farmer will show you his ostriches. Ostrich fillet is on the menu! Days 21 to 22 -
Oudtshoorn - Stellenbosch
|
From Oudtshoorn you travel along the scenic Route 62 via Barrydale and Montagu to Stellenbosch. Much to do in this university town with its Cape Dutch architecture, cool oak-lined streets and many museums. Visit one of the many wine estates, or take the Helshoogte Pass to Franschhoek, known as the culinary capital of the Cape. Overnight guesthouse in town.

Days 23 to 25 -
Cape Town
|
Enjoy the many sites of Cape Town: Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the first building - the Castle, take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. Make a full day's outing to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope National Park, pausing along the way to visit the Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach. Your route takes you along the breathtaking Chapman's Peak Drive, Hout Bay and Kommetjie. Later, visit the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront with its many shops and restaurants, and take a boat trip to Robben Island, famous for its connection to Nelson Mandela. Overnight guesthouse in Sea Point, Cape Town.

Days 26 to 27 -
Cape Town - Home
|
Last day for sightseeing, shopping and enjoying the sun. Drive to the airport well in time for returning your rental vehicle and checking in for your flight home. End of a wonderful holiday!
